NIT tid-bits

By: Sean Higgs     Date: Mar 17, 2009
Print Article

Forget about the bubble bursting. Let's get into it.

We have the darlings from last year, Davidson, led by Stephen Curry. They head into SEC country to face South Carolina and their talented guard Devan Downey averaging nearly 20ppg.

UAB travels to South Bend to take on Luke Harangody, Kyle McAlarney and the rest of the Irish. Can the Blazers scoring combo of guards Paul Delaney and Robert Vaden keep them in the game. Will ND, once a Top 10 team, be even interested in this game?

Not the way Lon Kruger wanted things to end in UNLV after racing to a 13-1 on January 1. The Rebels were clearly and up and down team all season finding no continuity. Enter Kentucky, and their stud scorer Jodie Meeks. Not exactly what the 21 win Rebels were looking to see. Going into Kentucky. Now, Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie might be in over his head. Anything short of a NIT Final Four and the natives will be extremely restless in Bluegrass Country.

UTEP has a pair of guards who can score in Stefan Jackson and Randy Culpepper. Nevada is young team that is coming together. This should be a very fun match-up.

This is all I have to say about St. Mary's. Patrick Mills is back and this team should have been invited to the Big Dance. If UCONN and NC get passes for playing without a key cog, the same should apply to a mid-major who lost its star player.

Creighton gets a bad snub. This isn't like getting a bad bowl in football. This mid-major will roll into MSG for the Finals.

Baylor vs Georgetown.. Must say I like this Bear teams. Baylor should get it done vs a Hoya bunch that is a bad team. Don't fall for the "they were ranked...blah blah blah.." This team was picked to finish in the middle of the pack of the Big East.
