Wednesday’s NBA schedule is loaded with 12 games for us to look at. However, there are a select few that involved both match ups of teams with better than .500 records. The Grizzlies and Hornets will play in New Orleans in hopes of staying in the playoff race while our game of the day will be between the Thunder and Denver Nuggets.
Memphis Grizzlies at New Orleans Hornets (-1.5, 203)
The Hornets have already beaten the Grizzlies twice this season, and will look to beat them for a third time. Both teams lost at home in their last game as under dogs as the Hornets fell to the Spurs and the Grizzlies losing to the Blazers.
The Grizzlies have been inconsistent since the All Star game winning and losing every other game. During the 9 games since the All Star break the Grizzlies are 4-0 straight up and against the spread. The Grizzlies own a 6-3 ATS mark in their last nine road games as an underdog.
The New Orleans Hornets will try to snap a two game losing streak as they fell to two better teams in their division in the last two in the Mavericks and the Spurs. The Hornets have been favored just twice in the last 11 games, but managed to cover the spread both times they were favorites against the Pacers and Rockets, both at home.
The road team in this series has covered each meeting this season against the spread despite the Hornets winning both times. Grizzlies were 3.5 point underdogs at Memphis on 1/20/2010 and lost by two while they were 7.5 point favorites ten days later at home and lost by 7 in OT. Each game finished over the total of 203.5 which is where the line lies tonight.
Oklahoma City Thunder at Denver Nuggets (-7, 207.5)
This is easily the match up of the night with both Kevin Durant and Carmello Anthony going up against each other.
The Nuggets lead the Northwest Division, but it’s not much of a cushion with three teams, all on fire, are chasing them by 4.5 games or less. The Thunder are one of those teams while the Jazz, and Blazers are the other two. The Nuggets have lost two in a row and will look to end that when they return home to face Kevin Durant and the Thunder.
The Thunder are on 0 days rest, but no issue there this season as they are 7-4 ATS on the road with no rest this year. However, they have failed to cover their last two opportunities under this scenario, once against the Spurs, and the other against the Timberwolves. The Thunder have done amazingly well on the road this season, and over the last 20 road games they have turned a 75% against the spread advantage for bettors going 15-5 ATS in their last 20 away from the Ford Center.
The Nuggets on the other hand are 7-1 straight up and 5-3 against the spread at home when they are coming off a road loss this season. Monday they lost an ugly one against the Suns 101-85 and they’ll look to bounce back. It’s the first two-game losing streak for the Nuggets when they have both their stars healthy in Billups and Anthony.
The Nuggets-Thunder series has been split this season with the home team claiming both wins. However, it was the Thunder cashing at the ticket window both times. The Thunder cashed as ten point road dogs in a 9 point loss in December, and they then knocked off the Nuggets at home in a 101-84 win as +2 under dogs. However, that loss came without Carmello Anthony and the 84 points was the lowest point total of the season.
