By: Steve Merril Below are 2 free MLB plays, with analysis, for Friday night: MARLINS at NATIONALS (Over 9, +105) – 7:05 pm ET #951-952 Not an official play, but I would rate the Over as a light lean tonight. The Nationals are lucky that Josh Johnson is not making this start for the Marlins. Instead, they'll get Alex Sanabia who Washington will see for the third time. His last time out on August 30th, Sanabia gave up four runs and seven hits in 5.7 innings pitched in a 9-3 Washington victory. Sanabia is 1-1 with a 5.82 ERA in his last three starts giving up 12 runs and 17 hits in his last 17 innings of work. Ryan Zimmerman (3-5), Michael Morse (2-3), Alberto Gonzalez (1-3), and Nyjer Morgan (1-3) all hit Sanabia well in limited at-bats. Washington is averaging 6.9 runs per game in their last seven contests while hitting .295 as a team. They have gone Over the total in four of their last seven games. That Marlins bullpen is 3-13 with a 3.77 ERA on the road this season, and they figure to get some work here. John Lannan makes the start for Washington. He's 7-6 with a 4.73 ERA in 21 starts this season. In one start against the Marlins, Lannan gave up six runs and nine hits in five innings of work. Overall, he is 2-2 with a 5.68 ERA in five career starts against Florida. Hanley Ramirez (6-13), Dan Uggla (4-11), Emilio Bonifacio (2-6), and Gaby Sanchez (2-4) all hit Lannan well. The Marlins are averaging 5.3 runs per game in their last seven contests. They've scored four runs or more in five straight games and in seven of their last eight games overall. With both pitchers in bad current form, we expect a high-scoring game tonight between the Marlins and Nationals. DODGERS at ASTROS (-105) – 8:05 pm ET #960 Not an official play, but I would rate the Astros as a light lean tonight. The Dodgers losing streak moved to six games after they lost game one of their series with the Astros in Houston last night. Los Angeles will now face J.A. Happ who has been smoking hot for Houston. Happ is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA in his last three starts giving up four runs and 13 hits in his last 22.3 innings pitched. The lefty hasn't started against Los Angeles in his career so few hitters have a history against him. The Dodgers are 18-23 against lefties this season while averaging just 3.8 runs per game against them. They've struggled as a team to hit the five run mark, and the last time they did was in Colorado back on August 29th. Hiroki Kuroda makes the start for Los Angeles. He's 5-7 with a 3.69 ERA in 12 road starts this season. Earlier this year, Kuroda defeated the Astros in Los Angeles after giving up three runs and seven hits in six innings of work. As noted above though, he is a different pitcher on the road. Carlos Lee (4-11), Hunter Pence (3-11), Jeff Keppinger (2-6), and Humberto Quintero (1-2) have good numbers against the Dodgers starter. Houston has won three straight games, five of six and eight of their last 10 games overall. They have won four straight home games and they are now 36-33 in Houston. The Dodgers bullpen has a losing record on the road and an ERA near 4.50. Houston is simply in much better current form and they rate a look tonight at an attractive price.
