Last Month of the Regular Season of the NFL

By: Frank Jordan     Date: Dec 10, 2008
Print Article

NFL regular season is coming down the stretch with a lot of races still very close as the AFC East is a three way tie at the top, AFC North is separated by one game, NFC North is a game apart and NFC South is separated by a game. The AFC South is clinched by the 12-1 Titans, the AFC West can be clinched by the Broncos with a win on Sunday, the NFC East is clinched by the 11-2 Giants, and NFC West is clinched by Arizona. In the AFC East the Patriots, Dolphins and Jets are all tied with an 8-5 record and the Jets control their own destiny with games against Buffalo and Miami if they win out they will win the division with 2 wins over Miami and a better divisional record than New England. I expect the Jets to right the ship and win the division. Baltimore and Pittsburgh are separated by just one game as Baltimore is 9-4 behind 10-3 Pittsburgh who is a perfect 4-0 in the division and would clinch with a win in Baltimore this Sunday. Look for Pittsburgh to win in Baltimore in a brutal game and clinch the division. Denver has to completely collapse and San Diego would have to get hot for Denver to miss the playoffs, it won't in week 15, but by week 16 it should. Minnesota is up one game on Chicago after beating them a couple weeks ago, but have 3 games left all with teams with winning records. Chicago has a tough Thursday game home to New Orleans, then Monday Night home for Green Bay never easy and finishing at an improved Houston. So you got to figure at best 2-1 for each leading to Minnesota winning the division on the last week of the year. Tampa Bay and Carolina will be neck and neck to the end Carolina took a one game lead with a win this past Monday, but they still have to go to the Giants and to New Orleans to end the season after hosting Denver this week. Tampa Bay has a bit of an easier route with at Atlanta that won't be easy, however the next two home games against San Diego and Oakland who have to fly cross country and are just looking to finish out their season. So this one is going to be a close one with possible tie breakers coming into play and it all depends on which games are won and loss, but I think Carolina will find a way to come out on top. Enjoy the last weeks of the regular season and the playoffs should be grand. Check back at the end of the regular season before the playoffs to see who I think will go all the way.
