When Chad Johnson was still Chad Johnson and with the Cincinnati Bengals he was their WR1 for years for most of his career there. 7 times he had 1000+ receiving yards in a season, and hit at least 9 TDs 4 times. Fun? Sure. Annoying? At times. Good guy? Absolutely.

His skill set is overall pretty ordinary on the large scale though. He has okay hands and is only a reasonable route runner at best. Teamed up with Carson Palmer for many years, he never had that season, where everyone just shook there heads and said he was a dominant WR and he was one of the leagues finest.

He wanted out of Cincinnati for some time, and of course, Mike Brown wouldn’t let him leave. (Sound similar to Carson’s beef?)Palmer had complained about Chad when he was there complaining about work ethic, dozing in film rooms and other stupid things that really shouldn’t be done at any level, especially at the professional level.

Finally it brings us to the move to New England, a second chance in his career. We all remember Randy Moss’s move to New England, 98 catches, 1493 yards, and just an NFL record, 23 Tds in his 1st season there, ring any bells? But Moss had that ridiculous speed to get downfield, Chad doesn’t, never has. Randy had incredible hands, Chad never has. This season, his biggest moment was him dropping a wide open prospective TD pass, ya we remember. The Brady – Ochocinco combo certainly hasn’t developed in the way Patriots fans hoped it would.

This year, Chad’s contribution to the Patriots organization has been beyond meager. 9 recpt, 136 yards, and 0 TDs in 5 games played? Really? He is simply not part of the offense at all. I thought for a moment he could have been a sleeper guy who rejuvenated his career there, I mean Tom Brady could get the stock boy at Kohls 6 TDs on the season. But Chad has struggled with the plays since day one, and doesn’t seem to be getting any better with them, by now he should be on point, and getting open and being an ingredient in the offense in New England.

Chad Ochocinco, you’re a professional, it’s time to bring the A-game, this is your time, your chance to show what you can do, and instead, his numbers are far worse than the likes of Denarius Moore, Preston Parker, Josh Cribbs, and Brandon LaFell, none which are established big named receivers in the league, what does that say?

Brady gets everyone involved, but Welker has amazing separation, Branch runs good routes, 2 things you should be trying to learn form your teammates. He has actually become a burden when he's on the field for New England.

Saying you’re glad to be part of the team, and how amazed you are at the team, doesn’t cut it for me. That’s what 4th string guys say who are just glad to get a ball or 2 flung there way in a blow out. You should want the ball, be part of the machine that is New England. It’s great to be selfless and take pleasure in other guys making plays, but being there, making the plays is what they wanted you for, especially from going from what the Bengals had as a WR1 to an alternative once every 40 plays is a real disappointment.

Will be interesting to see if Chad can stick around in New England, or if he eventually gets cut from the team. Because as of right now, he is basically a waste of a roster spot.
