With only three weeks remaining before college football bowl season begins, there's limited time for bettors to get in on the value that conference play provides. While public bettors are zeroing in on the matchup at the Big House between Michigan and Ohio State, sharps have their sights set on a trio of games headlined by Texas' battle with Kansas in Austin on Saturday night.
The No. 3 Longhorns (10-0, 4-5-1 ATS) are well on their way to an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game in Pasadena, and they're cashing some wagers in the process. Overvalued at the window early in the season, Texas is 3-1 ATS in its last four contests, and has scored at least 34 points in nine of its 10 games this season.
Oddsmakers have the Longhorns as huge 27.5-point favorites against the Jayhawks (5-5, 2-7 ATS), who have dropped seven in a row against the spread (2-5 SU). Coming off Texas' 35-7 win as 14-point chalk at Kansas last season, the Longhorns are 5-1 ATS (6-0 SU) in the last six meetings between the Big 12 rivals.
Over in the SEC, No. 10 LSU (8-2, 4-6 ATS) faces a tough test when it takes on Mississippi (7-3, 6-4 ATS) at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday afternoon. 0-9 ATS in their last nine games in November, the Tigers have covered in only one of the last eight contests between the schools.
Louisiana State is priced as 4-point underdogs for the game, even though its only losses this season came to No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Alabama. Winners of four of their last five games (3-2 ATS), the Rebels will have to find a way to slow down Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson, who is expected to play despite an ankle injury.
No. 14 Stanford (7-3, 7-3 ATS) is giving a converted touchdown at home to California (7-3, 5-5 ATS) to highlight the Pac-10 schedule on Saturday. A potential factor in the BCS after slamming USC 55-21 as 10.5-point road underdogs last week, the Cardinal are an impressive 11-0 against the number in their last 11 conference games.
The Bears took home the cash as 9-point chalk in their 37-16 payday against the Cardinals when the schools clashed last season at Memorial Stadium, but that was a different Cal team. Star running back Jahvid Best (concussion) will be out of the lineup for California against Stanford, one of the hottest wagers in all of college football.
