ACC ATLANTIC

1. CLEMSON - (15 returning starters) - Dabo Sweeney gets his first full year. A new DC, Kevin Steele from Alabama will have the defense ready togo. We fell for the hype last year. This year, with a healthy OL, RB CJ Spiller must be fed the ball all game. Breaking in a new QB won't be easy, but he has star power behind him and a good defense to save him. 5 road games vs teams that all went to bowls are a challenge. Tigers will be an under the radar team this year.

2. FLORIDA STATE - 13 returning starters) - Bobby Bowden enters his 34 year at Tallahassee. This is his best team in years. A tough schedule, Miami FLA on Sept 7. then road games at BYU and Florida plus the usual ACC suspects. The talent is there and if they get past Clemson on the road November 7, they can win the Atlantic.

3. NC STATE (14 returning starters) - HC Tom O'Brien enters his 3rd year. If the offense this season looks like what I saw last night, I may have to rethink this selection. We are high on this bunch. They have 2 cupcakes before a home game vs Pitt, then travel to Wake. They need to find their groove.

4. BOSTON COLLEGE (14 returning starters) - Another new HC in BC as Frank Spaziani takes over. Spaziani was the DC for the last 13 years so the D wont slip. We have some questions about the offense, but BC should still get to a bowl game.

5. WAKE FOREST (13 returning starters) - We are big fans of HC Jim Grobe. The offense should have no problems scoring points. But the defense with just 4 returning starters, and none of their top 5 tacklers will have some trouble stopping points from being piled up.

6. MARYLAND (9 returning starters) - HC Ralph Friedgen is a clear rebuilding process and will need some miracles to avoid his 4th losing season in 6 years. Starting the year in Cal September 5th should be great for Cal's season. They do have 1000 yard rusher DaRei Scott back, but it will be a long year in College Park.
