2010 World Series Historical View and Analysis by Rob Vinciletti

By: Rob Vinciletti     Date: Oct 27, 2010
Print Article

In the 2010 regular season, San Francisco finished two games ahead of Texas. From 1905 through the 2010 MLB Semifinals, when MLB teams have had a 2 game regular season lead on their best-of-7 playoff series opponents they have posted a 5-6 (.455) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents.

MLB best-of-7 playoff series 1121 is the second best-of-7 playoff series for the Texas Rangers, and the eighth for the San Francisco Giants. In best-of-7 MLB playoff series, Texas has a 1-0 series record, a 0-0 Finals-round series record having never made is this far, and a 0-1 Game 1 record, while San Francisco has a 3-4 series record, a 0-3 Finals-round record, and a 4-3 Game 1 record. The Giants have the 3rd longest drought since their last Championship.

This series is the first best-of-7 MLB playoff series meeting between the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have home field advantage here as the National League all star team snapped their long losing streak this summer. While the Giants are a small underdog here its worth noting that the team with the home field advantage has a 57-44 all time record, good for a 56% win rate.

While most of the country was expecting a Yankees and Philles series rematch from a few years ago, both Texas and San Francisco reached the World Series and both were underdogs in their Championship Series rounds. Texas has a strong hitting team and basically one real ace in C. Lee.

The Giants have a solid staff led by T. Lincecum and M.Cain. They also have impressive rookie Madison Bumgarner who has opened some eyes. The Giants do not have the hitting that Texas has. However they have a solid Bullpen led by lights out closer B. Wilson. The Giants were able to beat a solid hitting team in Philadelphia who may have had a stronger lineup than Texas. The Philles had what appeared to be a devastating pitching combination with Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels. The Giants were able to overcome the big pitching advantage as well as the home field in that series. So this looks to actually be an easier spot.

Look for the Giants to emerge as 2010 World Series Champs. RV
