Last year’s hot dog eating contest was the first time officials used a ten-minute time limit. It was also the first time the even had a tie since 1980, as Chestnut and Kobayashi were all knotted up for first after eating 59 dogs in regulation. In overtime, “Jaws” was the first to finish five, winning the event.

Chestnut also won in 2007 but before then, Kobayashi had won six in a row from 2001 through 2006. Winners take home $10,000 in prize money, while second place gets $5,000 and third receives $2,500.

Just to be clear, those numbers not only include the dogs themselves but also the rolls; all consumed within the 12 minute time frame. Joey Chestnut is currently the favorite at 4/5 odds and Kobayashi is the 2nd choice at 6/5. Crazy Legs Conte has 5/1 odds and the FIELD is set at 15/1.

The Over/Under for total Hot Dogs eaten by the winner is set at 60. I get sick watching this event. You can watch it too as it is on ESPN Saturday morning July 4th at 12 Noon ET. What better way for America to celebrate its birthday than Chestnut bringing home another title. That's who my money will be on!
